In development, launching January 2027
Every AI chat you have, saved as a file you own.
ThreadKeep quietly copies your ChatGPT and Claude conversations into a folder on your computer as plain Markdown. Search them all in one place, open them in Obsidian, and keep them even if you switch apps.
One email when it launches, nothing else. Want it for life? Founding lifetime is $29.
Set it up once. It saves everything after that.
No exporting, no copy and paste, no remembering to hit save.
Add it to Chrome
Install ThreadKeep from the Chrome Web Store. No desktop app, no account.
Pick a folder
Choose where your chats should live, like your Obsidian vault or any folder you back up.
Chat like normal
Every ChatGPT and Claude conversation lands in that folder as a Markdown file, and stays up to date as you keep chatting.
Three promises we'll keep
Most chat organizers keep your data inside the browser. That's why chats vanish when you switch computers or uninstall. ThreadKeep is built the other way round.
We never lose your chats
They're plain files in your folder. Uninstall ThreadKeep and every file stays exactly where it is.
We never see your chats
No servers, no accounts, no analytics on what you write. Your conversations go from the AI site to your disk and nowhere else.
We never shrink the free plan
Saving and searching ChatGPT and Claude chats is free, and that's written down here so you can hold us to it.
How it compares
Chat organizers sort your conversations inside the AI app. ThreadKeep gets them out, into files you control.
| Typical chat organizers | ThreadKeep | |
|---|---|---|
| Where chats live | Inside the extension, in browser storage | Markdown files in your folder |
| If you uninstall | Folders and saved data can disappear | Your files stay put |
| Across AI apps | Often one app only | ChatGPT and Claude in one archive, with Gemini and Grok coming |
| When the AI site changes | Can break without telling you | A clear "capture paused" badge, and saved files are never touched |
| Setup | Install, then organize by hand | Install, pick a folder, done |

Questions
Do I need Obsidian?
No. ThreadKeep writes ordinary Markdown files, which open in any text editor, VS Code, Notion's importer, or just your file browser. Obsidian users simply point it at their vault.
Does ThreadKeep send my chats anywhere?
No. There are no ThreadKeep servers that receive your conversations. The extension reads the chats you open in ChatGPT and Claude and writes them to the folder you chose. The only network call it makes on its own is checking a license key if you buy Pro.
What happens to chats I had before installing?
You'll be able to run a one-time import of your existing history, and those chats get saved as files too.
Which browsers and AI apps will it support?
Chrome first, with Edge and other Chromium browsers expected to work. ChatGPT and Claude at launch, then Gemini and Grok for Pro.
What if ChatGPT or Claude changes their website?
We'll test against both every night. If capture ever stops working, ThreadKeep shows a "capture paused" badge instead of failing silently, and files you've already saved are never touched.
When does it launch?
We're aiming for January 2027. Waitlist members and founders hear first, and founders get early access to the beta.
